Speechreading

The original term "Lipreading" is called "Speechreading" today because it involves more than reading lips.

It involves total focus on the person you are listening to – the facial expression, body movements, and what you can "read" from the person's lips, teeth, and tongue.

Without realizing, most hearing-impaired persons do speechread to a certain extent, but most do not know it is a skill that can be learned.

Statistics show that a hearing-impaired person who wears hearing aids and also possesses speechreading skills can improve comprehension as much as 90%.
